Setting Up Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro

to work with FS2002 in Windows XP

The Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro joystick (original) does work quite well in FS2002 under Windows XP.

Here are the steps to take to set up the joystick, first in Windows, and then in FS2002.

First of all you will need to go into Control Panel

XP PRO users...

Select Printers and other Hardware...

You will then be presented with the following screen....

In here, select Game Controllers..

XP Home users....

Double click on Game Controllers

All users....

Next, you will tell it to Add a new joystick...

Just click on the Add... button...

Scroll down the list of devices until you find the Sidewinder (Autodetect)

Click on the line to select it, then click on the OK button..

Windows will autodetect your joystick and show that it has found it correctly as in the screen below...

You can now click on Properties and check the functioning of the joystick and it's buttons

You can test it and calibrate it here..

Just click the OK button when you are finished..

That's it as far as the Windows setup goes. Exit from Control Panel and start up FS2002..

Once inside FS2002, from the menu, select Option, Controls, Assignments..

You should see the joystick type displayed and below it, the Assignment list

Use the scroll bar on the right of the Assignment list to scroll through the list.

Check the preset Joystick assignments, and change them if you wish.

The following screens show the default assignments...

When you have finished assigning actions to the buttons, click on the Joystick Axes tab.....

This shows you the Events assigned to the joystick axes...

When you are all done with your assignments, click the OK button and go fly and try it out...
